DOCG-IGT

The Chianti wine, of very ancient origins has given its name to a zone of Tuscany. This wine was alredy known by the Etruscan people. The origin of the name is ascribed or to the latin clangor (noise) or to the Etruscan clante (water). In the thirteenth century was constituted the “League of Chianti in Florence” with the aim to regulate the tertiares of Gaiole, Redda, castellina zones. The first documents identify, therefore, with the name Chianti the zone of wine production and the same wine produced. The world symbol of the League of Chianti Characterized by Black Cock on a Golden ground.
The first products at the end of 1300 (the fourteenth century) were white low quality wines, then in 1400 (the fifteenth century) the producers select the grapes towards the red producing the first red Chianti wine of a quality undoubtedly superior to the white wine that is steered and chosen even by the Popes. In 1716 in Florence the Grand Duke Cosimo III dè Medici specified in a proclamation the borders of the zones  producing the Chianti wine. Today he could be defined the forerunner of the “Denomination of Origin Controlled” D.O.C. the grand Duke issued also a decree by which he instituted a watch congregation on the production, consignment, fraud control and commerce of the wines. In 1835 the countryman and enologist Ricasoli produced for the first time a red full-bodied intense flavoured wine  for superior to the famous Tuscan and French wines his formula consisted in the wine making of two red grapes ( the Sangiovese in the quantity from 75 percent), one white grape (the Malvasia at 2-5 percent) and then was added also the Trebbiano. About 1920 some producers of the Classic zone constituted the first Society for the defense of the Chianti wine choosing as trade-mark the “Black Cock” symbol of the ancient heague of the Chianti. In 1970 has been recognized the Denomination of the Origin Controlled and at the and of the century has been drawn up the production rule with the parting in seven geographical subzones  of Tuscany. So is born the Chianti wine, pride and honor of the Tuscan land in the world.

Wines IGT

The initials IGT stand for Indication Geographical Typical and qualify those wines that do not belong for different reasons  in the denominations DOC DOCG. The IGT wines are acknowledged as typical wines also by European Community and they must signal, besides the production zone and the grape-vine the maximum product obtained by grapes/hectare and grapes/wine, the alcholmetric title minimum 12° and the enology typologies. The traditional qualitative culture is always tended to improve itself, remaining yet linked to the typicity, evoiding every type of change or yielding to fashions often temporary imposed by an advertising that aims at the homologations of the consumer’s tastes directed to affirm an inexistent  “international taste”. Faithful to the traditional line but opened to the innovations, in Tuscany have spread some varieties of international grape-vines as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Siroh for red grapes and Chardonay, Sauvignon and Fermentino for the white grapes. It is important to underline that in these last years the wines I.G.T  have often identified with the wines of the producers that, though going out of the bonds of the Denomination, have strongly invested in the research to arrive at a higher quality. In some cases, yet the final result has been extraordinarily good to overcome the standards of the wines of the Denomination and to contribute to originate the myth of the famous “Supertuscan”
From our Estate: Red wine Supertoscano Vezio, Red wine Castelbocco, Tuscan Red il Santolaio, white wine Prunalbo, white wine Marini.
