Vineyards
Plunged in the quietness of the hills that offer unforgettable sunset over a Tuscan landscape rich in olive-yards, vineyards and in a green woody areas, originates the farm “Il Poggio Primo”.
The wine wine farm “Il Poggio Primo” enjoys more than half a century of experience and gratifying activity. Marino Marini that was already a wine producer began the commercializing of his wine pushed by a genuine passion inherited , today, by his son Vezio and his grandson Pietro. For Castiglion Fibocchi commune the farm constitutes a prestige point and meanwhile, a reference point to all those ones want to taste really a genuine wine.
The wine produced by “Il Poggio Primo” farm, for the excellent position of its vineyards were from the medioeval time the preferred wines an the tables of the most glamorous families as the Medici one. As “Il Poggio Primo” is a familiar management farm, it produces the wine still now in an artisan way. Today “Il Poggio Primo” farm boast 25 hectares of vineyards divided in 80 percent Sangiovese, 10 percent Canaiolo, 5 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 2 percent Cabernet Franc, 2 percent Merlot, Trebbiano Chardonnet and about three thousand Olive –trees among Moraiolo, Leccino e Frantoiano. From this cultivation are produced vintage wines, the Tuscan extra-virgin olive oil and natural cosmetic products.
The vintage begins manually at the end of September and last about 12 days. The choice to make the vintage manually and not mechanically originates by the will to make a first selection to be able to grant a high quality of 100 percent. The first grapes to be gathered are the Chardonai ones followed by Sangiovese and Merlot and at last the Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc because of its characteristic slow ripening. The gathered selected grapes are loaded in carts or boxes to avoid the crushing of the grapes during the transport to the thorium wine cellar. At this point the grapes are deprived of grape-stalk and the grapes continue their way towards the wine-making. The selection of the percentage of grapes (that will constitute the different typologies of wine so as it has been established by the rule) is made before of the arrival in the tank that is the moment when begins the wine-making process. The process takes place in cement and stainless steel barrels. The ageing is mad in oak barrels and barriques. This simple and traditional process and thanks also to the fertile and sunny soil particularly suitable to the vineyards and enhanced by the happy position of the subsoil cellar, far from endogenous elements as light and heat, has originated a Chianti D.O.C.G “Marini” that keeps unchanged in the time its own organoleptic characteristics preserving the whole taste of the genuine wine of Tuscany. Today thanks to the perseverance and confidence in the product, this nectar can be found in the best restaurant in Italy and in the World.
The Italian Enoteca in Siena has given a degree to this farm as the best producer in Tuscany Thanks to the selection organized by the Tuscan Region. In the months of September/October our farm offers to schools and Private citizens the possibility to live directly the experience of vintage and to follow with us the wine-making process.
